It is rare to come to a place that literally takes your breath away. But this happened on August 9, 2017. My partner and I were spending a few days on the coast to celebrate her birthday. I had expected to spend a full day at Seabrook the previous day, but sadly we lost track of time elsewhere. Fast forward to the last day of our trip, I decide that we should just dress up and explore the town.
Driving in, we felt like we were in a movie. The houses were so quaint, and the town itself was picturesque. People were talking outside the cafe, there were children riding bikes, and ever watchful parents following close behind with the family dog. It almost felt like a dream. We started walking through the town hall square, and I just happen to mention that Seabrook does host wedding. She looked me dead in the eyes with, and said, “I want to get married here”.
For context, by that time, we had been together nearly 5 years, so marriage was on the table. I playfully diverted the ensuing questions for a bit as we rented some bikes from Buck and got to meet his dog Luna. We ate some fish tacos that we constantly crave even to this day. We spent the rest of the day just exploring the farm district, the beach, and the central markets. We were only there for about 4 hours, but it felt like we had known the town for a long time. We felt at home there. I have never experienced a feeling like that. Of all our dates that we have been on, visiting Seabrook is easily one of the best experiences we have ever had.
Looking to the future, we do eventually plan on tying the knot. For now, we have some time to figure our lives out a little bit more. But both her and I know that one day when we leave Seabrook, we’ll be holding hands with brand new rings on our fingers waiting for the next time to return.
