For the past 10 years, we have celebrated our anniversary by renting a house at Seabrook with a bunch of our friends. We take turns cooking meals, play boardgames, dig for razor clams, explore the beaches, try to catch at least one sunset (hard with stormy February weather!) and explore whatever new additions there are to the town. Each year and house has been wonderful, but my favorite would next to be our 10th anniversary. We rented Beach Bluff, a beautiful house overlooking the water, and took advantage of the extra room by inviting 14 of our friends to join us. They surprised us with an elaborate scavenger hunt, which had us running all over Seabrook: stopping at the gazebo to write songs an sing them to each other in less then 3 minutes, a water balloon battle in the park, a blindfolded obstacle course in the front lawn, a treasure hunt on the beach…it all ended with them performing a song that they had written for the occasion (somehow they managed to sneak guitars, a drum set and a keyboard into the house without us even noticing). And then there were the treats: one of our friends, a French culinary school trained baker, baked for us all weekend, making lemon meringue pie, cream puffs, and the most amazing croissants I’ve ever tasted in my life. Getting a chance to take a break from our hectic lives, truly relax, and enjoy time with friends is invaluable. Counting down the days to our next Seabrook getaway.
